Sierra Trading Post, I Love You

59373_115.jpegRemember that now! This site is your friend. Don’t be turned off by the frumpy site design or cheesy styles in the mix. It caters to a wide audience and is the perfect site for those addicted to hip-but-comfortable shoes, with the occasional Weitzman or Kate Spade in the mix. I also like to think of it as the bargain basement REI, with camping and hiking stuff, as well as all kinds of sports accessories and home decor. I buy almost all of my shoes from this site.

A little tip after the bump:

Last Chance Sale!

32420_s09.jpgHanna Anderson is having its big summer sale right now. I was remiss in my Cheapster duties and should have told you of this sale about a week ago, but there’s still time if you’re willing to dig around. Many of the sizes are gone already, but there are some deals to be had like this nice lined and lightly water-proofed fall jacket in a pretty green. For me this jacket is a miracle since E loathes wearing jackets or coats of any kind. It’s lined in jersey cotton which is hopefully very, very soft, and it’s his favorite color to boot! Yay! Also it’s $20. Wish me luck.

08p33655l.JPGdiscolux-caribe-mom-grp.JPGSorry to you Stepford Moms who enjoy dressing exactly like your child. I’m afraid all of the women’s selections from the “Family Collections” are sold out. But never fear! You can always go here for mother, daughter, son, and doll matching outfits.

Grillin’ and Chillin’

724980.jpgSit back, pop a brew, and let the kids grill up some dinner with this all-wood kid’s grill set on sale for just $9.99 at Hearthsong.

Don’t let the corny name fool you, Hearthsong has some really nice, quality children’s toys, and their sale section is amazing. Originally started by Barbara Kane as a response to an article about “superbabies” she says this about her store’s concept: “Most of all, children need time for creative, imaginative play. In fact, it is through play that children learn most readily.” Sign up for the newsletter so you don’t miss the specials!

So, did you grill this weekend? Gas or charcoal? Lighter fluid or chimney?  Eco alternatives?

Pre-Summer Sale at Gymboree

140032562.jpegI like many of Gymboree’s clothes. They are cute and usually well-made, but typically I find them too expensive for my wallet. Not right now! Gymboree is having a sale up to 40% off original prices, making them about equivalent to Target and Old Navy’s prices when not on sale. The cute top to your left is $11.99. If you’re looking for a special dress, a cute swimsuit (with SPF protection), or some darn cute socks and undies, now’s your chance. They also have “summer camp deals” with shorts and tanks for $8 while supplies last.

Mighty Good Flea Market

il_430xn22756423.jpgThe folks at the MightyGoods.com shopping blog have started an Etsy site to sell flea market and vintage items they’ve collected like the Mod Apothecary Jar pictured for $24. In general Etsy can be a fantastic place to find good deals and buy customized things. Shopping on Etsy, you cut out the “middle man” and buy direct from the seller.

il_155x12526584650.jpgAnother Etsy site I highly recommend is Superflykidz. They makes superhero capes for adults and kids and will customize one with the colors and initial you want all for $10-13. E loves his!

il_155x12526327531.jpgWhile you’re on Etsy, check out my own jewelry site Gruvkitty, where I’ve just added a bunch of new items, and our very own Purls Before Swine writer Lyn’s site for crocheted animals and collages.

Know any other good Etsy sites?

Blue Light Special

bluelight130x130.gifWhen presented with a compliment on what you’re wearing, do you blurt out how little you spent? Do you relish telling others about your savvy shopping skills? Do you stock up on Gatorade and protein bars when planning a visit to Nordstrom Rack or Loehmann’s? Then I have a personal shopping tip for you, and you never have to leave your computer (thanks Alan!).

I Scream, You Scream…

dotcoms_1997_201816320.jpeg…we all scream for a Cuisinart Yogurt and Ice Cream Maker for only $39.99 with an additional 5% off until midnight today at iKitchen! Anyone else find it amusing that they added “yogurt” to the title to make it sound more healthy? When we received this as a wedding gift 8 years ago, it was just an ice cream maker. I feel ripped off and unhealthy.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

Save Flipper… and the world!

pan-04-set.jpgWe’ve all heard how our plastic-obsessed society is creating vast plastic floating garbage islands in the oceans. Sea animals ingest and/or get tangled in this mess and die, sometimes slowly. Then there are the landfill issues, litter, and plastic pollution. What can we do? Buy less plastic, reuse, and recycle. A very easy thing to do is switch to reusable grocery and produce bags.

env-set-pic.jpgYou can use old tote bags, reuse those paper bags a several times and then recycle, or buy a set of reusable bags from a site like Reusablebags.com. Here’s a set of 4 organic cotton totes with 4 mesh produce bags (those are plastic too!) for just $19.95. For something more stylish, look at the Envirosax set of 5 beautiful Mikado bags ($37.95) that roll up into very small pouches when not being used. There are dozens of other choices on this site.

Do you use plastic grocery bags for dog poop?
