I do but she doesn't.

I feel like I haven't been on here in a looong time. Not everyone has heard that I'm newly engaged to The Chef but I believe most of you have from FB and because I can't keep my mouth shut. It was unofficial at first because he wanted to ask my dad first then we wanted Bug to get to a place where she can accept this HUGE change.

About 2 weeks ago, Bug stayed the night at a friend's house and Chef took me out to a beautiful B&B in VA. We went out to a 5 star dinner were he proceeded to pour cocktails and half a bottle of wine into me. I knew he had been planning this weekend for weeks and thought the room and dinner were the big surprise and I couldn't have been more thrilled. It was also my brother's birthday that day so on the way back from dinner I called him up and had a friendly, drunkenly, sisterly argument with him for several minutes in the driveway of the B&B. Chef stood nearby patiently, laughing at my slurred curses and happy birthday wishes. I finally made my way up to the room where we had an amazing Italian hand carved 4-poster king sized bed; there was a rose now laying on the bed that hadn't been there before. I thought it was a sweet gesture and went to pick it up, practically throwing the ring box on the floor. My heart immediately jumped up into my throat, fighting for room while my breath went rushing out. How I managed to stay on my 3" heels and not faint onto the bed like Scarlett O'Hara is beyond me. Inside the box was the most stunning sapphire and diamond ring I had ever seen.

Actually, I had seen it once before. This was a ring I had seen in passing about a month prior. I made a comment to Chef about it and, being the man he is, didn't seem to really notice it as there was a customized motorcycle standing in the road across from him. My idea of a shiny bauble is obviously not the same as his. And yet, there was the exact ring. The hoops he must have gone through to find the person who designed the ring must have taken days and days.

I turned around to face Chef, completely unsure of what this meant or what to say or whether it was all some alcohol-induced hallucination and if I was really passed out on the front steps. He said it wasn't an engagement ring, yet, but a promise.

That promise has since turned into an official engagement and we couldn't be more excited. Giggling like two love-sick teenagers, making wedding plans and discussing the names of our unborn children. Before we do anything more, however, we have to tell Bug. She knows about the ring, she knows about the promise, she knows Chef and I are together. As fricking smart as she is, I'm sure she knows about the engagement. Every time I mention Chef coming over she rolls her eyes and the uber-brat rears her nasty head. It's not that she doesn't like him; she just doesn't like "us".

I know I have to tell her, I just don't want to deal with her reaction. It's been hard on her, moving across country, and I just don't want to add more to her stress or mine.

So, how would you recommend I break the news?
