West Coasters - party still going strong!
Replies
Remember – you can’t talk about the munchkins but everything else is good!
“F5” will update the screen without having to scroll back down the page
Don’t worry if you lose track of a conversation – just like a IRL cocktail party the conversations tend to flow around – just start a new line and SOMEONE will jump on board!
Am I cool?
I'm waiting for belated kid bedtime stuff to happen but I'll be back, probably not even remotely keeping up with the conversation.
JM, the place looks great!
Lea, you are supercool!
Ruth - thanks, I slaved, but you are totally worth it!
Ah, my pathetic, passive aggressive compliment fishing paid off! I still have my Seattle street cred! wOOt!
MNM, how is life in the deep south?
...ahem, that should be 'w00t!'
damn keyboard.
I'm here, but I'm not cool.
How many folks are you going to have at your Texas get-together?
(I am SO jealous!)
Hot and humid. I'm making lots of bread, and wearing my hair up as much as possible. Air conditioning feels GREAT on the back of the neck!
Also the heat makes my perfume go away faster. Grr!
ks - you have a cat avatar, that gets you major points in my book! Where are you?
Oh phooey, I'm going to miss it again. And I've got wine coolers in the fridge and everything... maybe I'll pop in after my meeting tonight.
Let's see...me and AlphaGeek and the kiddos, CJRW & family, mamawho and family, kiwi and family...I think that may be it. Piebrothersmama had to bow out, sadly and I think sabine louise has a previous engagement.
I don't remember if paperbagshoes is going to make it or not.
JM - well, whenever I'm in DC, I'll definitely be looking you and PF up...
MNM - I broke down and turned on the A/C this week. We went from 55F to 95F in 36 hours.
I'm in NW Ohio, sitting on my couch and drinking margaritas. They who must not be named are upstairs pretending to be a herd of elephants and generally not sleeping like they are supposed to be.
MNM - absolutely! I'm looking forward to playing tourist!
Oh, and the avatar is my cat Zoe. She's the only other source of estrogen in this house.
Can I come? I didn't have any mixers for the vodka, so I had to use the kid's milk. Is that wrong?
Also, we need to thank BoL for the F5 thing. Mad props to her.
That's crazy! Around here, it may cool down to about 71 at night, but by the time I get up (around 6:30am) it's already 80 degrees.
I'm trying to keep my electricity bill at the $200 mark, so my thermostat is set to 77, believe it or not. I turn it down two degrees at night so it's easier to sleep.
I'm slightly north of NW Ohio eating tiramisu! Yum!
Floor pie - I'll leave the light on for you...I got a BIG bottle of rum!
ks - yum - I haven't had a margarita since the last time my sisters and I got together
I left Houston last week thinking that would be as hot as I would see for a while, but when I got back to PA, it was even hotter. And with less of a breeze.
Vodka and milk? *shudder*
Couldn't you at least whip up some kool-aid?
Which mixes well with tequila too, by the way.
Diggy - sounds reasonable to me, but I might not be the best judge!
(tiramisu...oooohhhh!)
I was just kidding about the vodka and milk. I made sure I had cold beer for tonight. Although I didn't realize the one beer I have is over 10% alcohol. I don't think I'll be here that long. And no dinner, either. So, I'll apologize now for any typos. Or inappropriate comments.
Diggy - if you make it chocolate milk you could pretend it is a black russian...if you squint...and have a couple of shots first....
I usually show up late - that's when all the weird stuff happens.
I haven't had tiramisu in ages. Sounds delicious.
Can I just say how cool it is that I'm getting advice about how to mix vodka and milk? I totally haven't been a parent long enough.
ks - you and Zoe have me beat, we have had 6 cats and 4 dogs and I'm the only egg-bearing critter in the bunch!
I am liquor free this eve, so I guess that makes Lorena the Butcher the designated driver.
Hee!
Hi everybody!
(Hi Dr. Nick.)
Just popping in for a few min before I have to drive across town for a hospital tour for that unborn kid.
(I'm not talking about kids...I swear!!!!!!)
We are divided equally - even our cats are a brother and sister pair.
DGB - you are treading a fine line there... ; )
That F5 thing totally rules!!!!!
DGB - come back and make fun of us...I should be good and giggly by the time you get back.
MNM...I know, I know. But I'm not. I promise.
Well, those people we're not supposed to talk about are both boys, as is the other cat and the husband, so I'm frequently outvoted here.
Yes, BoL is awesome in so many ways...
Let's have a toast to BoL! Cheers to the teller of the F5 secret!
JM...I haven't had the experience of missing a party and going back to re-read all of the posts. It should be fun.
I like being at a cocktail party while still at my desk.
ks - that's just not right. Although our little person we're not supposed to talk about keeps asking who the 'Boss' of the house is. He thinks it's me.
"I should be good and giggly" - all of a sudden I feel like a freshman sorority sister ("I'm so ...(hair flip)...drunk!")
JM, that's the mating call of a sorority girl. I didn't get along well with them in college, but that's what I've heard.
Well, it was a fun (albeit) brief time.
I gotta run. I will catch the night owls and West Coasters later.
TTFN
Catch ya later DGB!
I'm excited because I'm going to get to use a chainsaw this weekend. It's my father's day present. I was lucky enough to have a huge tree fall down in my yard the other day during a bad storm.
Diggy, are you going to keep the wood?
It's just me and Lucy the dumb shih tzu. We're out numbered 3 to 2. And I can't count on Lucy to have my back cause "Princess Sausage-face" is such a daddy's girl.
diggy - congrats about the tree?
Yay power tools!
As much as I can. But it's not really fireplace weather here. We have an outdoor fire pit, so I'm going to save a bunch for that, but we don't really have a place to store the wood. There is a hedgerow in the backyard (which is where the tree was) so I'll just put the rest there. Back to nature. And hopefully keep some of the critters away from my garden.
MttM - do shihtzus come in "smart"? I've only met a couple and they all seem a little nuts
Diggy, that tree was supposed to fall in my EX'S yard, on his house! Sorry, my witchcraft must have been misdirected!
Ah, we had to take down a fairly large oak from our yard, and AG saved the entire trunk. I'm not sure what he's planning on doing with it, though.
Someone explain F5. I still have to click "say it" to post, right? So then I'm at the top of the damn page!
I'm kind of bummed about the tree going away. We have a row of them between us and the apartments behind us, but the good part is I get to use power tools. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Just put some vodka in it first.
Diggy - I hope it didn't do any other damage. We lost a huge oak at our old house and it flattened the shed - if it had gone the other direction it would have taken out my bed!
I'm drinkless and sober - so I'll just people watch for awhile.
ruth, you must get help from Ellie, who is my favorite wiccan.
Ruth, now you've got me worried. I thought us PA folk were supposed to stay together. Now I've got to worry about you taking down trees in my yard? It missed the patio by about 2 feet. And when you post, it does go back to the top, but if you aren't posting, you can hit F5 and it'll stay at the same place.
MNM, I obviously do need some pointers, since Diggy lost a tree and my ex still has a roof.
My grandmother has five that crap all over her house. She recommended we get one before I knew that they dont really house train ever.
Sometimes I look into her eyes and see straight to the back of her skull. But she is a happy dumb dog.
Ruth - f5 only helps inbetween postings - when you put your comment in it will take you to the top
Diggy, I swear it was a mistake!! I promise next time I'll be more careful and take some tips from Ellie
Is there a way to post without clicking? A keystroke?
Ruth, are you that lazy? Try hitting the "Enter" key, I think that might work. I'll try it now.
Nope, doesn't work. Maybe Tab, then Enter.
leighbie, i'm sober too.
but i'm rockin' the 80's tunage tonight!
it's like being drunk, but without the falling down and throwing up in the credenza.
I AM that lazy Diggy. Enter gives me a paragraph break.
OK, the tab, then enter keys work. Man, we are getting lazy. Or is it efficient?
Ooh, Sailor, what are you listening to?
Efficient
Yeah Weird Science makes dogs bark, who knew?
Sailor: But only 2 Offsprungers can sing "I come from the land down under...." Thanks Men At Work.
We are getting spoiled - this whole scroll-down-the-page is simply too much work for m!
Diggy rulz!
Well, f5 doesn't work on my Mac, unless I also hold down the fn key while I do it. I haven't tried the tab, enter.
Nope, that doesn't work for me either. It sent me to a feedburner subscription page.
Sailor, what are you listening to 80's on? I love the 80's. Aren't you too young for the 80's?
Diggy, I think geeks would call us efficient.
now playing: oingo boingo; wierd science.
next in list: simple minds. guess the song.
Could we listen to Rusted Root, honey? Thanks
Sailor - men at work?? Vegamite and everything?
hi, i forgot again, but i just happened to be passing by and saw the lights on..
Vegemite with an e.
i was actually a child of the 80s.
Alive and kicking?
ks, wow, I can't believe that Windows actually has something on Mac. I bet on the Mac, you can just think Refresh and it will do that. You probably don't even need to use a keyboard.

Sorry BoL - once again you are here to show us the way
Sailor to the Mama - I once went to the "Red Ball" (Big fancy charity thing) in Philly and this chic totally chucked all over the marble floor foyer.
Dang, I love people watching.
Sailor, Don't You (Forget About Me)
Yeah, it's really my only complaint. I have mild carpal tunnel and the less using the mousepad, the easier it is on my wrists.
LOL nope just so unreasonably picky sometimes. :P
BoL - do you and DaD ever try to figure out D&D attributes for random stuff?
Like we'll joke that my hair (when down) has Entanglement +4 or when the catbox is really bad it is Stinking Cloud +2 or something.
Maybe that's just us, cuz we're nerds.
okay. the movie: breakfast club.
the song?
first one gets a cookie.
Leighbie - I can do without the vomit, but other than that I'm a big fan of people watching as well
Rusted Root is so 90's! How many college campuses did they play?
it's not like i expect an american to have even heard of it, really. you're still points ahead.
oh man, at a big fancy thing like that? that's gross. Ever see those videos of people getting sick like that at their own weddings? Classy!
OK, the party can start now. Wait, you jerks are already getting my wife drunk!
can i ask while people are right here and awake and all, is anyone else having the most bizarre month?
I try to avoid big events with loads of people. The urge to shout "Soylent Green is people!" just way too tempting.
Did so once in the foyer thingy at my hometowns Catholic church.
Sailor, I want my cookie.
i feel like the whole of June is one big "death card" sweep, clear away all the crud, kind of thing.
Rusted Root played at a little artsy fartsy bar/cafe in Pittsburgh. I saw them there before they were anybody :)
Was it If You Leave, or was that from Pretty in Pink?
MttM that's hilarious, i so wish i'd been there. i say that exact phrase at the most awkward times sometimes. It's great.
man. diggy won before i even posted the prize.
two cookies or diggy. with sprinkles.
next artist: kenny loggins.
movie hint: kevin bacon.
go!
PF - she outed herself as a drunk sorority girl already. You're too late.
footloose?
Yay, PF is here!
Bol, my June is sucking but my whole year and the past couple of years have sucked so that's nothing new. HOw is your June plaguing you?
Mama, I love that line. I would pay so much money to actually see someone do that. That's too funny. I'm thinking if you tried it again you'd be a YouTube star.
The awesomeness at our house is Unbeatable!
So what is everybody listening to ?
Footloose? John Lithgow is my preacherman.
I hope someone chooses Diggy with sprinkles.
BoL - I'm sorry this month is going poorly - February was the hell month for us in the Familias household (car wreck, sick kids, raining brown toilet water in the kitchen...)
I am listening to cicadas and Feist.
i'm not the plagued, but each week i get news about someone else's plague. sort of thing. I think i'm the eye of the storm.
the part that is bothering me is that all the people 'suffering' or whatever are people who have done nasti shit at me at one point or another, and i've been sitting around wishing evil at them for a while. Now major evil's are going on, and this sort of worries me. I feel guilty.
DaD reminds me that people of a certain disposition will eventually fuck themselves, once they've got rid of anyone else to fuck over, so i guess it must just be that.
yay for bol!
but you'll have to share sprinkles with diggy. i only have enough for two cookies.
makes me want to dance in my socks. except i'm pretty sure mama's laugh at me...
and just coincidence that it's all at the same time. it's just really weird is all.
That's my favorite line from 30 Rock. Where Kenneth is telling Tracy about that movie where those evil kids won in the end.
I'm a geek and am watching Ultimate Machines.
Diggy - AG was just watching Top Gear. The episode where the Veyron races the Eurofighter is amazing.
ks, If You Leave is by OMD. I know way too many 80's songs.
i'm trying to find a cute cd cover software thing so i can mail my mix cd to the poor suffering people who got me as a counterpart. I'm slack as they come. I've burnt the cds, but they look so lame, and i don't have any experience making them cool.
Bugatti's = shiny!
wow. talk about awkward post placement...
BoL - sometimes there is a sense of kahrma at play
MTTM: I love 30 Rock! Especially the line where Tracy Morgan says "It's a disappointment, like Colonial Williamsburg"
I'm not listening to anything at the moment. Mr. S is watching The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. In French, with subtitles, which normally wouldn't bother me, but it means that I can't halfway pay attention like I normally would when he watches something that sounds freaking depressing and that I didn't particularly want to see.
Bol, don't feel guilty, it's probably karma.
And BoL, just so you know, I had a toast to you. Think nothing but good thoughts about me. Please?
For the record I was just requesting some Rusted Root. Was Young Einstein a 90's movie?
I still stand by the statement that I was the best thing to come out of the 80s.
PS thanks for the comiz, but my personal month has been fine. No worries, biz starting up ok, i think all our bills are presently paid, (for a change), it's going well. But the people i hate are all having a shitty june, i can tell you. >:-)
Diggy, I knew it was by OMD, but I didn't know which John Hughes movie it was from.
Howdy, ruth!
Bol, my June rocks. I have this crap extra duty I've been taking care of at work and it is almost OVER. Two weeks more and I'm free of it. Love June. Can't wait for July.
ks, the diving bell and the butterfly was supposd to be awesome. apparently it's all the rage among speech therapists because there's a fantastic speech therapist in the movie.
okay. tricky one.
who wrote the theme song from beverly hills cop?
bonus point for the most annoying cover ever.
BTW, Sailor, you said that they could get Cookies, or diggy. with sprinkles. It's amazing what a missing f can imply.
So I have another question. I just went through by I tunes looking for a cocktail soundtrack and found a bunch of music that I haven't heard in ages. So, What in your music library do you no longer listen to - now that you are a parent?
Me: Teaches of Peaches, most of The Faint, and some random other stuff
you?
shit i did know that... axel f. er... herbie hancock.?
Harold Faltermyer. Axel F. Give me a hard one. (That's what She said)
Ruth, I had only heard good things about it, but reading about the plot kind of just turned me off. I tend to not really care for those inspirational type stories and it also seems to be pretty slow moving (from what I've seen so far).
Plus, he changed the channel from Raiders of the Lost Ark to watch it.
oooh...
and i'm not even drinking, diggy.
MttM - I can't believe you were born in the 80's ... I am feeling too old - I need PBM to come back so she and PF can battle for the ancient title...
Wait the theme to BH's cop didn't come out of Eddie Murphy in a series of farts and whistles?
Harold Faltermeyer
damn i was in the right part of the alphabet. i knew it was a dork name.
JM, I'm totally old. I graduated college 20 years ago last month!!
ks - early Harrison Ford is not to be missed! Dang...
Speaking of eye candy, maybe I'll start running '300' in the background...
Herbie Hancock is much cooler that Harold Faltermeyer.
Thanks Bol and Sailor, now I have that stuck in my head (I couldn't think of the name of it, though).
Leighbie - we had to purge the Violent Femmes from the player which makes me sad...
ok where did this line come from "Red dwarf needs food"
Hey, am I gay for liking 300? Especially in HD?
How old is everyone? I'll start - I'm 34
41, almost 42. OLD!
MNM, that was my complaint exactly. But Mr. S doesn't appreciate the beauty and wonderfulness that is young Harrison.
Ruth - thanks, I needed that!
32
Diggy, I'm sure you're not the only man to feel that way!
And Diggy, you're not gay for liking 300.... not that there's anything wrong with that
I'll be 32 in September.
you guys really drinking? it's so early for that i get a headache thinking about it.
ks - I saw that movie - the guy is an asshole and now he's an inspirational asshole. It was a beautiful but really annoying film.
I had to check with PF but he confirmed that I am 40
ks - hee!
Harrison Ford is still eye candy at 60-whatever.
w00t i'll be 33 in october. am i the only libran in here?
Bol, it's 9:45 pm here!
And am I the oldest one here? That sucks so bad
26
Thanks for understanding. I'm a big history fan. And the woman in there is pretty hot. And there is nothing wrong with thinking well muscled young men are attractive, right? OK, high alcohol content beer and no dinner are not a good combo.
BTW, I'll be 37 is less than a month. So, I'll say I'm 36 for one of the last times.
Ruth, yes he is.
Leighbie, that sounds about right from what I've seen so far.
Ruth - PF is being quiet...read into that what you will...
Jeez, MTTM. You were born 2 years after I graduated high school.
Mttm is YOUNG. *jealous*. I can speak for DaD and state he's actually younger, but he doesn't look or act it. ( I think that's my fault... living with me has aged him.)
ruth, you may be the oldest, but you have the cutest hair. And I mean criminally cute.
BoL - I'm an October baby as well
32
bol:
red dwarf needs food? that's gauntlet.
gauntlet 2, if i remember exactly. i could be wrong on the number.
'fess up PF. Someone here has to be older than me... please?
Ruth - I'm lovin' the hair too!

I hate this part of the party – I’ve washed the glasses and fluffed the pillows…now I’m just waiting to see if the cool people show up…
