Anyone else feel that earthquake?

That was crazy! I haven't experience an earthquake since I was a kid. It was 5.8 magnitude about 10 miles from where I'am. Yikes!

No, but I'm not close... I just heard about it though. I assume you're ok, since your still on OS. Has any major damage been reported yet?

Yup. I felt it.

Everyone in my office scattered to the door jambs. There hasn't been one in a while.

As far as I hear, no major damage.

Where are you?

Orange County California. My kids are all okay at daycare and camp! So far I haven't heard of any damage, but I can't reach my family in LA, the phone lines are all tied up.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

6th floor swayed a bunch (downtown LA), we all evacuated just in case.

But pretty quiet now.

Oh yeah. A blogpost about it to come shortly!

Well, I didn't feel it in TX, but I did get to experience a 6.1 back in 2001 that was in Washington, and had it followed up a few years later with Mt. St. Helens starting to erupt again.

Fun times!

I'm crossing my fingers for an uneventful hurricane season.

My husband is going to San Diego Thursday, so now I'll be a nervous wreck! Glad everyone is OK!

I felt it - it was my first too. Things shook but nothing fell off shelves or anything. We're in Atwater Village, just east of downtown. Where are you, Violet?

Sorry, I just saw you're in Orange County. They said it was felt in San Diego.

Well, I'm glad that everyone is OK. I was just reading an article today about how the San Andreas fault is longer than they thought originally. I'm am geologist so these things are interesting to me. Anyway, they said that LA was due for a big one sometime. Geologists are cool in that soon can mean a million years. Anyway, here's the article if anyone is as geeky as me.

Yes. I felt it. I'm not normally a freak-out case when it comes to earthquakes but it came at exactly the wrong time for me. I need a drink.

I'm in the San Fernando Valley & we felt it. According to the news, it was 5.4 and centered in Chino Hills. There hasn't been any major damge reported, but they did interview some guy who was upset that his $7000 lamp broke.

That's just his fault for spending 7 grand on a lamp. *jeesh!*

I wish I were in California. I spent the whole time trying to look interested in meetings where I couldn't hear over the various machines. An earthquake would have really livened things up (and probably got me out of work for the afternoon).

Hope everyone's okay and didn't lose expensive breakables! Then again, if you have expensive breakables and kids in the same house, it was probably bound to happen sooner or later anyway.

It did get me off of a looong conference call.

I'm not sure if any one particular decorative item in my house costs $7000. Yeah, I just took a good look around. There isn't one.

Diggy - neat article! I drive by an exposed part of the Balcones fault and I always say something about it to GirlWho. I used to go to the Arbuckle Mountains when I was a kid to see all the bizarre rock formations from where the tops of a few mountains actually sheared off and fell. Instead of the strata being horizontal, it's vertical in some places, and sticks up out of the ground like tombstones. Pretty cool.

I was on the 12th floor of a building on rollers. It was pretty got-damn dramatic, and I'm embarrassed to say I got hysterical. It lasted a long time for us because of the rollers, and the uncertainty of how long it would keep going was just brutal.

mamawho, there is a good chance that didn't happen from an earthquake, but I won't get into details about it. But it sounds like it looks cool. I love looking at rocks. But the tombstone thing is probably just differential weathering. I like that phrase.
