Summer Day-Camp Ephemera

No unusual projects, but to your point about the bird show and such: I'm still irritated that, to supplement the "water" unit at daycare a few weeks ago, I took the Dragon out into the front yard one sweltering weekend to show him how ice melts, only to have him come home the next week shouting about how they watched a big piece of ice melt! In the sun! 'Cause it was hot out! And ice is water, but it's not, 'cause it also turns to water! In the sun! 'Cause it's hot!
And yet I keep trying.
Yeah, when parents do or say it, it's totally uninteresting.
And my kids' summer camp has a freakin' boa constrictor named Elvis. They feed it live rats and my 10 year old is fascinated by this. I told him my personal pet rule is "no pet that requires live food."
Nothing is weirder than some of the stuff I've taught my kids.
i wouldn't know where to start. There was Genus and the X board on Lucky Friday...
Well, Miles made a couple of basic fishing flies at Outdoor Adventure camp. Fortunately he didn't bring home the seven fish he caught.
Eli has brought home about a zillion craft projects this summer ranging from teddy bear art to pirate's treasure chests.
I think my favorite was from the first week of camp -- space was the theme. They made space suits -- the helmets were made of brown paper bags with the faces cut out, then they wrapped cereal boxes and water bottles in tin foil and added elastic straps.
Apparently, on the last day of camp (the camps are held on the campus of the college where my husband works), the kids (5/6 years old) donned their space suits and scoured the quad for aliens. They were approaching students and staff and asking, "Are you from outer space?" How I wish I could have seen this!
Mo brought home a paper with various colors of paint that he mixed himself! They were colors that he thought Monet would use. There were some browny gray blobs but some beautiful purples and violets. I'm so proud!

What kind of weird projects and bits of knowledge are your kids bringing home?
