30 days sober..still love beer!

So after my night with three shots of tequila I decided I should take a little break and not drink for a while. I chose 1 month of sobriety. My month is up, so I spent the weekend celebrating by brewing homebrew beer with my hubby and my dad. I had a few beers this weekend...they taste so much better after not drinking for a bit.

Basically all that to say...I still love drinking beer.

i've had homer simpson's "dough... the stuff that buys me beer" song stuck in my head for about a week. i love beer.

actually, when it's real hot like this, i really like beer on ice. sacrilegious, i know, but it keeps it extra cold, and takes out some of the bubblyness so i don't get so burpy and full. which also enables me to drink more, which is even better.

beer good. I think they proved Cleopatra drank beer. If it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me. I learned to drink beer in the desert, up until then it didn't make sense. But 14 hours in the desert, you learn to appreciate beer fully. I'm so good at it now, i can drink it in winter. In England. At cellar temperature. But chilled on a hot day is good too. There's a beer for every day of the year really.

I can't stand beer. In college I drank tons of the stuff and not just kegged swill either. My taste for it went out the window with the birth of Mo. After having him I can't stand the taste and that makes me sad. If the need for something cold in a bottle arises I turn to malt liquors (which oddly qualify as a beer). But mostly I'm a hard liquor, cocktail kinda lady.

All this talk of beer makes me thirsty for alcohol and frivolity. When's the next OS Cocktail Party?

I like beer occasionally. And I hear you sasy, we had a night last week where we both drank too much wine (although only 3 glasses each, which apparently doesn't count as binge drinking according to the CDC). But we woke up feeling gross and made a new rule, which is nobody can drink anything with alcohol in it before dinner is eaten(which is where we went wrong).

Had a bass myself last night. And a hot dog. If I had balls I'd stratch 'em.

I like to drink. I enjoy getting a little tipsy. Now that my kids are mostly weaned (the littlest one does not nurse at night and I can put off nursing and pump if I have had anything to drink) I have found a renewed liking to beer. I realized after such an extended nursing career and not drinking that I had a hard time recognizing how much is too much, i.e. three shots of tequila is too much. My dad can drink, is a fun drunk, and my whole family seems to enjoy drinking. But I can see how easily drinking on occasion for fun can turn into drinking on a regular basis just to have a few drinks and how that can be a problem. So I took a break to be sure it was not turning into a problem for me.

I realized just how often it is socially acceptable to drink. I also found it not really that hard to not drink. My friends and husband were really supportive. There were definitely days when I felt like really having and beer or two, but chose not to. I feel pretty good about having stuck to my 30 days. I think I also discovered where the line for me is. I also discovered that I still like drinking beer and probably always will.

I have never been able to drink beer. Even the really good stuff. We went to Guinness in Dublin and I choked half a pint down so I wouldn't look like a sissy, but my husband had to finish mine off. Tequila? Bring it on! Sissy girl drinks? Them too. I made a really nice Sangria Saturday night because it was 33C here and even the wine needed to be cold. I have also developed a taste for fine whiskey while in Ireland because we did both Jameson's and Bushmills. You'd think that was all we did!

I really like scotch. I turned Jimbo on to scotch when we met. Last summer we went to a distillery up in Portland Or. Edgefeild I think...Thats some yummy stuff. We came home with a case of whiskey! We also drank a bunch of beer when were went to Germany a few years back...those Germans can brew some yummy beer! Now we have started brewing our own beer and that adds a whole new dimension to beer drinking.

I took a break from liquor a few months ago. Too unpredictable (for me). But my wife and I polish off a bottle of wine probably four nights a week on average since the kid was born. My beer consumption has dropped dramatically since I've become a dad (and a wino).

Love beer...very much. I'm taking an alcohol break this week too, though, as somehow I put on five pounds in ONE WEEK of vacationing up north. That's backwoods northern cooking for you, right there.

I second PF, when is the next OS cocktail party?

I used the be a cheap date, enjoyed drinking but it had to be sophomoric-ly palatable. Spent a semester in Germany and returned with a taste for beer that requires a fork. Love. It. All. The darker the better.

I'll have a Black & Tan, 86 the Tan.

Now I get all cankle-y when I drink. I just puff up with retained water. At last I think that's it. Some combo of drink, rich food and/or salty food. Must conduct many more experiements to determine the exact amalgam of culprits.

I haven't had a drink since I peed on a stick and it had a blue line. So, about 5 months. I've made some friends promise that they'll take me out and feed me cosmos as soon as I have this kid!

Sabine, I'll bet it's the food you tend to eat when you're drinking beer. But then again when I was in college and threw up after a long night I always blamed the food. "Must have been those nachos," you know, because it couldn't POSSIBLY be that I had too much to drink!
