Oooh! Can't wait! Daddy T-Rex is gonna have to buy me this! It will look dandy under the tree.
meh, that's right I said meh. Though I'm getting Mo the first HP book for Christmas.
I tried to get my dad (a pretty conservative christian) to watch one of the HP movies with my oldest son. He refused saying that HP encouraged witchcraft and satanism. I think that might have been the first time I was speechless. Eventually I tried to talk him out of this idiotic idea, but he wouldn't have it.
Cog, if you really want to get his panties in a bunch, you can tell him you share a parenting board with an actual PAGAN WITCH (insert ominous pipe organ music here) Mwah ha ha! And I do not worship the devil, because I don't believe in the devil. So there.
Here's the deal...I really love HP, and am jazzed that JKR went from poverty to bazillionaire, but I doubt that lighting is going to strike twice for her. I feel kind of meh about the Beedle books myself, because it isn't Harry, dammit.
I have to admit, I ran out and bought the book. I just read the first tale. There is "Dumbledore's" commentary on the stories and in the first one, she makes a nice dig about the fairy tales "encouraging bad thoughts and wizardry!" as so many people have said about the HP tales.
I just wanted to read them.
looks like folks need escapist fiction more than ever! or at least, i do, because i'm going onto the library's website right now to put a copy on hold.
I have it on my request list at the library, but it will be a while before I get it.
I did get it for my niece for Christmas, but she's six, so I imagine it will be at least a while before she can read it on her own. My sister will like it though, and since she'll be reading it to the kids, it's really for her anyway.
I'm feeling meh about it too, although I obsessively loved the HP books. TommysMommy, was Beedle the Bard any good?
I'm almost through it. It's like reading Grimm fairy tales but everybody has magic. I really am enjoying Dumbledore's take on things.
