File under: Cute but irritating...

Anybody else's infant go through a hollering happily phase? Ours especially likes to exercise her lungs, operetta-style, in the wee hours of the morning. I feel really bad for the neighbors, but how do you tell a six-month-old to use her inside voice?

oh yeah. the little man has a scream that i swear is at the resonating frequency of the bones in my skull. they grow out of it (and then back into it). or at least, he doesn't do it quite so much now.

Infant? As far as I know they don't knock that off. Possibly ever, judging from my college students (they're drama majors).

In that right now. Sprout has two modes...crying cause she's unhappy or screaming because she is happy.

What's so funny is that when she's in one of these babbling squawking moods, I can totally fast-forward to four years from now: "...and then he did this and I said this and there was a doggie and we had a tea party and I sang a song that went like this lalalalalalala..."

We have been trying to enforce the "inside voice" with the two year old. He very happily serenaded everyone in the restaurant at lunch today. He doesn't seem to get that just because WE want him to talk, that doesn't mean EVERYONE wants to hear him.

Sheesh.

There is a song from "Yo Gabba Gabba" that worked wonders for us. It was called "Inside Voice/Outside Voice." I can't remember what ep it came from though.

That is, worked wonders for us with our toddler. Not the screaming baby.

Beenie screamed and shrieked at 6-7 months, she stopped after a few weeks. I think she was just sort of setting her range.

2nd kid (2yrs) does the gleeful banshee scream. She found her inner happy banshee nearly a year ago and it has not gone away or gotten any quieter.

yeah, Bol, we call it "exploring his upper register". ;)

Ha! Baby T-Rex totally did this. Funny thing, though, was that Daddy was driven INSANE by it, like clutching at his head and doubling over. But Mommy (me) didn't much notice it.

Is it just me being insensitive, or is this natural selection, giving women the ability to cope?

I give you Ebay in July: http://offsprung.com/playground/show/6534
She did eventually quiet down.

Atomic -- Your baby is beautiful. What an amazing expression, wise and good-humored. Daddy T-Rex even came over to see.

Aw, thanks T-Rex! She's pretty incredible. I don't know if I could ever have a second, because how could you get this lucky twice in a row? Even the screaming is cute, in all honesty.

HBD, I can't get over how much Ebay reminds me of the Parasite. Maybe it's that devilish gleam in the eye...

The other current favorite, besides screaming, is blowing raspberries. Which combined with teething makes for a very wet baby.
